Stable and Radioactive Cesium in Natural Environment

نویسندگان

چکیده

Cesium is the heaviest stable alkali metal (with only one isotope – 133Cs) and it occurs mainly as a potassium-substituting cation. It an important trace element in rocks typical for Earth crust, its content biomass also relatively high compared to those abiogenic elements which are little soluble. Low-cost analytical methods like X-Ray Fluorescence inadequate quantify cesium natural samples, so that usage of ICP-MS (Inductively-Coupled-Plasma Mass Spectrometry) or INAA (Instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis) necessary. Nevertheless, investigation pollution with radioactive 137Cs, fission product can be measured gamma-ray spectrometry, contributed knowledge biogeochemistry cesium. has been shown Cs usually strongly retained humus (thank clay minerals), cycling intensely within soil-biomass system, being slowly removed (at least, this valid ecosystems temperate climate). The results extensive biomonitoring Czech coniferous forests prevailing spruce) show concentrated (relatively all other elements) by processes.

The present nuclear leakage crisis from Japan is a topic to be discussed in present public health. In radiology, the leaked radioactive elements are considered hazard. Here, the author briefly reviews and discusses on two important radio-hazard elements in post nuclear power plant crisis, radioactive iodine and radioactive cesium. Based on previous similar nuclear crisis in Russia, it ...

[Concentrations of radioactive cesium in different cuts of beef].

After the Fukushima No. 1 Nuclear Power Plant accident, high levels of radioactive cesium were detected in beef. Many prefectural governments decided to conduct blanket tests on meat from local beef cattle to prevent distribution of beef contaminated with radioactive cesium exceeding the provisional regulation value. In some cases, different concentrations of radioactive cesium were found in di...

Removal of Radioactive Cesium Using Prussian Blue Magnetic Nanoparticles

Radioactive cesium (137Cs) has inevitably become a human concern due to exposure from nuclear power plants and nuclear accident releases. Many efforts have been focused on removing cesium and the remediation of the contaminated environment. In this study, we elucidated the ability of Prussian blue-coated magnetic nanoparticles to eliminate cesium from radioactive contaminated waste. Thus, the o...
